Cindy Burton

Head Coach - North Women's-Only team

Cindy had one of those fathers that said, "Girls shouldn’t be muscular!" Know the type? But she managed to sneak out on the tennis court enough early in life to make her college team, played co-ed intramural softball in her early 20’s before being exposed to the new ‘aerobic workout craze’ in her late 20’s. Within a few years, she became an AFAA certified aerobics instructor and personal trainer.

Her workout regimen for years was teaching and taking aerobics obsessively during the week and then going for a good long run on Sundays with a local running group. This allowed her to compete in local races and to hang out with runners, who were the coolest people in town! Some 10 years later, she ‘accidentally’ enjoyed the Motorola half marathon relay with a friend here in Austin and actually had the thought that ‘maybe a full marathon was possible’. And not just possible; enjoyable! It took her four marathons before she found all the right ingredients to give her an enjoyable marathon and at the same time, her best marathon performance. For Cindy, enjoyment and performance are not mutually exclusive! She has completed 6 marathons now and served as an AustinFit trail leader for several years. She is temporarily retired from marathons, her last one being Boston 2007. Her current focus is olympic and half iron triathlons.

Cindy did her first Danskin triathlon in 1997 when she over-obsessed with workouts after breaking up with a guy (there are worse obsessions, right?). Among the triathlons she has experience with are Dilloman, the Burnet Tri-hard, the Jefferson Heritage Tri, River Cities, Marble Falls, Austin Tri, Couples, Aquarena and Danskin. She was Head Coach for Team Danskin Training North Austin in 2007, Assistant Coach for Team Danskin Training North Austin in 2006, and a Workout Leader for Team Danskin Training in 2005. She is USAT Level I Certified Coach.

Cindy finds the cross training of the triathlon events extremely beneficial after years of running. And there is the potential to have lots more workout buddies with three sports! She rarely does anything that is not enjoyable anymore since life is way too short. Want to learn to ENJOY workouts? Hang out with Cindy!
