4. Question of the Week - " Are there different kinds of swim caps?"
Swim caps serve several purposes – they can help protect your hair from chlorine, they keep your hair out of your eyes while you’re swimming, and they help make you more visible while swimming in open water.

There are three main kinds of swim caps:  latex, silicone, and lycra.

Latex caps are the most prevalent – they are stretchy and inexpensive.

Silicone caps are thicker than the latex caps and are more durable.  They can keep hair a bit dryer than latex caps do.  Silicone caps can be used by folks who have latex allergies.

Lycra caps are made of a soft stretchy fabric.  They don’t keep hair dry at all, but they are easier to put on and don’t tug at hair.  Lycra caps can also be used by people with latex allergies.

All three kinds of swim caps can be found at sporting goods stores, including Lane Four Swim Shop, Jack and Adam’s, Academy, and Sports Authority.

6. Training Tip of the Week – Making time to work out
Sometimes it seems so difficult to squeeze in some training time.  Your day is already full to the brim, and we’re an on-the-go society.  How in the world can you fit it all in?

Sometimes it takes some creativity.  And it always takes a commitment to make fitness a priority.

Many people find that working out first thing in the morning helps ensure that it gets done – otherwise, things tend to come up during the day.

Some people find luck in scheduling an appointment to work out, even if they’re training alone.  Yes, write it on your calendar and don’t let yourself back out of it.

Many moms have come up with creative solutions for training:  they’ll work out before their husband leaves for work, or they invest in a baby jogger and/or bicycle trailer so the little one(s) can accompany them on the workout.  Gyms with daycare can be helpful too!  Or make a date with another mom friend and take turns providing childcare for each other.

Rather than eat out for lunch, bring your sneakers and take a walk during your lunch break – especially during the nice spring weather!

Make a date to train with friends.  You’ll always be more likely to get out the door if you know someone is waiting for you!

Understand that fitness will benefit your body, mind, and spirit.  Working out helps keep you healthy, can help you lose weight, reduces stress, and empowers you.  Whenever you’re having trouble trying to fit in the next workout, remind yourself of how good you feel afterwards and how much the training benefits you!   Take care of YOU -- you deserve it!
