$1 flip flops and other stuff
The $1 flip flops are out at Target (at least at the Round Rock Target)...in case you want something to put on your feet while waiting on your wave time to start at Danskin...and then dump them at the start. Also in the $1 section were some little red first aid pouches that work perfectly for small first aid items...band aids, Neosporin, ibuprofen, etc.
A couple of other things to think about putting in your tri bag is a small flashlight (it can be very dark in the transisition area early in the morning) and a small pair of scissors for cutting off the ends of the plastic ankle bands that hold your chip. A sharpie is nice to have too....in case the body marking line is really long and you're running really late! I know there are other little bits and pieces that are good to throw in your bag...please add to the list if you can think of any!

Handlebar plugs
I always have a few handlebar plugs in my tri bag. These are the (normally) plastic plugs that are at the end of the handlebar. Should you crash, these will prevent the end of handlebar injuring you or another person. (Think apple corer - OUCH!)
If I don't need them, one of my teammates might! If a handlebar plug is missing, your bike will not be allowed into transition.
You can purchase the plugs at your local bike shop. They are not expensive.

Soda bottle tops!
You can also get by with using the top off of a soda bottle. They're usually a pretty good fit and I normally have one or two in my car!

This isn't on any list I've ever seen but
Gas up your car the night before.
Inexplicably, the day before a Tri I always seem to be running on fumes and the last thing you want to have to worry about at 5:30 in the morning is getting gas.

contact stuff
For those who still wear contacts, it's always good to have extra saline or rewetting drops handy.
