To enter Athena/Clydesdale, or not?

Hi. I was just about to sign up for the Burnet Tri Hard and noticed that they have an Athena/Clydesdale division. Of course I fit right into that category! But you know how we learned it's a disadvantage to register as a non-age-grouper in Danskin because they start later? I was wondering if Athena/Clydesdale racers start in the same waves as their age groups, or if they form a separate wave or waves. If A/Cs are separated out, are those waves generally later than everybody, or interspersed with the age groups?

Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

i wondered this too

i considered the athena but went with age group just in case.  it would be interesting to know if there's a race "advantage" for those of us with a more solid frame.  ;)  Thankfully we get a choice at registration either way!!!

Well, you get to race "against" other Athenas

I have no idea if you would start in a later wave, but although starting in a later wave at  Danskin can be a real problem, it's not such a big deal in a smaller Tri, because there are so many fewer waves. Burnet has only 450 entrants.

At Burnet prices are given to top three finishers in age groups, also overall male, females and relay teams, and top Clydesdale and Athena.  So instead of placing in your age group, you'll place among the other Athens.

That's really the only difference.

I quit doing that

I entered as Athena at Splash 2004 but quit doing that cause sometimes Coach Tracy enters that category - and she's waaaaaaay faster than me!

Athena Starts

At most races, the Athena starts are combined with the Relays and usually go near the last--I guess it really boils down to whether you want to start with and have your finishing time with your age group or with the Athenas...

Thanks!

Thanks for all your wisdom.

I decided to go regular age group this time. I'll pay attention to what time the Athenas start, though!
