Feeling seriously sick...I think its my own stupidity bu advice would be nice
Well...today I did Lake Pflugerville TRI...congrats to everyone who got hardware...!! I would like to point we had many more winners than any other training group!!Â
Ok so to the problem...About mile 6 of the bike I realized I forgot to bring any sort of electrolyte replacement and only had water...As I got off the bike I was praying that there would be at least gatorade on the run...but well no luck....I drank my whole bottle of water and 2 glasses of water on the run but I was seriously hurting through the whole run...  As soon as I was done, I was lucky enough to have a recovery drink Red made for me...but I still had a terrible headache and was already achy...
Now its 5pm and I have eatten lunch a snack had about 20 oz's of gatorade and at least 80ozs of water but I feel terrible..My body hurts, my head hurts, I feel queazy and sort of weak... I am guessing its from lack of food/calories/electrolytes on the course which took me 1hr 51 minutes to do...Is there anything I can do to help recover? or am I just going to ride this out?
 Nicole H (what a bonehead I am!!)Â

Ditto on the chicken soup and Emergen-C!
When this happens to me, it only lasts at most 24 hours - hope you're feeling better soon! REST!!

Been there, done that
When I first started doing sprints, I would come home and seriously crash just like you are describing. After several races...and then finally joining a team, I learned (thanks to Gina and Tracy) that I wasn't drinking enough electrolytes. Hyponatremia is a bad feeling. :-) All I was drinking during the race was water. By the time it was over and I got Gatorade, or whatever, at the end, it was too late. I would eventually be back to normal by the next day. If you keep snacking and drinking electrolytes of some sort, you should feel better by tomorrow. It just takes a while.Â
As far as pure electroyte drinks go..I'm a believer in Nuun thanks to a yucky experience. Just this past year I got seriously sick at mile 8-9 of the 3m half marathon. I just couldn't take anything in. I came home and promptly passed out. When I woke up I really thought I might need the ER! I was so weak and my head hurt SO bad. Nuun saved me that day. It's a no-calorie electrolyte replacement (so keep the no-calorie part in mind if you race with it and eat something). I was a new person after 32 oz of Nuun that day. You can google it for their web site.Â
Hope you feel better sooner than later!!...and congratulations on another triathlon today!

I agree
It's probably an electrolyte imbalance that's going to take some time to resolve. Drink some sort of sports drink today. I too am a fan of Nuun, but whatever you have handy will help - Gatorade, whatever. Drink it. Sounds like you've had enough water, and that could be washing out the effects of the Gatorade you're drinking. I hope you'll feel better by tomorrow. Â

awwwwwwwww
I think most of us "experienced ones" have had that happen. It's always nice when races have drinks/food on the course, but you should never count on it. Bring your own. Sorry you are not feeling well, but it will probably pass quickly. Speaking of quick I noticed it only took you 1 hour and 51 minutes to do a triathlon today. take care.Â

THANKS BIG HELP!!
Thanks everyone that was a big help..I got some chicken soup in me and some oj and I seem to be feeling much better now.   I have the nunn tablets, thanks to Meredith I actually limit my sugar intake on long rides/runs and that makes a huge diff for me.    This was just a doppy thing to do..I wont make that mistake again :-)Â
THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!Â
Just a Reminder
If you guys ever see me out on the tri couse with my truck, I usually have extra electrolyte stuff, either drinks or gels or bars - I try to keep a variety. Please feel free to stop and take advantage of me if you need it.

Recovery
Chicken soup is the best... also vitamin C helps your immune system heal & rebuild the muscles, I like using the Emergen-C drink mix. Â
Hope you feel better soon! Don't beat yourself up anyway about not having fuel/electrolytes... it's hard to remember everything all the time. Just be well. :)Â
