To Pose or Not to Pose
I just wanted to know how other people are doing with the Pose method of running. I am pretty slow at running (12-13 min. mile on long runs is my average). Also, my training has been hit or miss because of family stuff, this last month. When I left the training last Wed. night, Tracy reminded me to push my hips forward, no grocery shopping. So during a run on Sunday, I tucked my hips/backside under my body (it felt too awkward to put my fists on my backside) every minute or so for about 1 minute. I ran 4 miles in 44 min. and 35 sec! I didn't have negative splits, but the 2nd 2 miles were only about 35 seconds slower than the first. I'm really happy about this. I also did not feel pounded into the ground at the end of my run. How is it working for other people.

Hi Diana
I posted the results of my first POSE run in the first thread started by Coach Gina. I've been doing it ever since and have noticed a dramatic difference and I'm super excited about it!
In fact, I used the technique in the Austin Tri yesterday and my per mile pace went from my previous best of 10:36/mile to 9:30/mile! And my knees are feeling significantly less pain.
I feel like the technique itself almost "forces" me to run a bit faster. I don't think I was necessarily at that 90 cadence prior to doing POSE. So now I count my cadence often to make sure I'm at at least 90 and so it inherently makes you go a bit faster. My heartrate is definitely higher, but honestly, I was ready for that little push to make myself go a bit faster.
Also - I needed a new pair of sneaks anyway, so I got a pair of Nike Free, which has a significantly lower heel than my last pair. They take some getting used to (i didn't use them in the Austin Tri yesterday) but I think i like them.
I do plan to attend some of Valerie's sessions to continue to improve my technique (and hopefully my speed, too!)

what I have noticed
What I am noticing is that my legs want to move faster, but right now my cardiovascular system is needing to play catch-up, but that is a good thing. I do not ever remember feeling this--usually it is the opposite--I have plenty of cardio--or enough--but the legs just don't have it--I am not feeling it in my knees like I used to do either. I have been "posing for about 8 weeks now!" and still learning.

Pose training
It is great to read everyone's comments.
One of the greatest aspects of learning Pose is the immediate changes that you will feel in your running. This also might be the first time that you have really paid attention to your body while you run. It is good to read that people are focusing on different issues while they run (cadence, hips) this way you don't get totally overwhelmed. Remember to practice falling into a wall or other solid surface so you get comfortable with the feeling. Before you start a run warm up your feet and practice pulling.
Hope to see everyone at the track!

Form
I love Valerie's comment that 'This also might be the first time that you have really paid attention to your body while you run'. The form changes you made, Diana, would probably benefit you with whatever version of running you choose to do. And your hiatus from running may have had you refreshed, adding to your sweet run pace!! Or it could be the new found speed inherent with Pose... And then there is the possibility of 'all of the above'!
I have been struggling to find the time to commit fully to a new style of running although I would love to dive in!! But, if I heard Valerie right (and Gina!), doing the exercises and building the necessary strength and flexibility is the key to being successful with Pose. So, I am going to add some of the key strength and flexibility exercises to my core routine. That way I am preparing now for if and when I can jump into this technique more fully. And I am thinking we might just get a nice booty to boot (glute and hamstring exercises will do that!!!).
I think I like my plan!!! :-)
