Caution about Swim Paddles!

Hey!

I have been using my YELLOW swim paddles sporadically over the last year but have been swimming more often and harder the last few months as an off season focus.  I bought my paddles at Lane 4 and a really cute young guy helped me get the 'right' size.  He was really cute... :-)  er, uh, I digress...  Back to the paddles...

At Coach Lisa's swim clinic this last Saturday, she suggested that they were too big for me and suggested that GREENS would be a better choice.  And right now, my right shoulder is killing me!  Kendra has yellow paddles as well and has been experiencing shoulder discomfort also.

At the Intermediate practice last night, Coach Jen put her two cents in.  She said that for swimmers who have a really good base and have been swimming most of their life, the yellows might be ok for my hand size.  But, as a triathlete who got into distance swimming late in life, GREENS would probably be a better, safer choice.  And she almost always steers triathletes to green ones.

I was relieved to know that Lane 4 wasn't totally miss guiding us.  But we, as triathletes, need to know this and be cautious about paddle selection and overuse issues that can be compounded by paddles that are too big!  If unsure, pick the smaller size to be safe.

Anyone need a pair of YELLOW swim paddles??!? :-)

Green or red

I agree--last year Coach Kim suggested RED for those just starting out with paddles and green if you had been using paddles, had a good base and would be swimming more for distance.

But I also think the colors vary by brand---At Lane 4, the "Strokemakers" are the ones I bought--Started off with RED (XS size 0.5) and then moved up to Green (SM-1.0)

Red (XS) or Green (SM) for female masters swimmers

Intermediate Swimming Clinic Handout

Can anyone of you who attended the intermediate swimming clinic last Saturday be so kind as to Post a copy of the handouts provided.  They were short and I did not get one of the drills handouts.

 Thanks.
