Family of participant would like to bring a 'tent' awning (or 2 if possible) to the site

Hi - my neighbor is doing her first Danskin and all of her family will be there.  Her husband would like to bring 2 tent awnigns (like our Tri Zones tent around 10' by 10') to set up to provide shade - especially for their two children and Shannon's parents.  Will this be possible?  If so, how does he go about arranging this?

Thanks,

elle

I wold recommend asking the race director

I do not recall how Danskin is set up, but last year at the Longhorn 1/2 IM there were several folks with names like "Team Mary" and "Team john" that had tents set up.  But  each tent area was pre-marked by signs, so they were all in  the same area.

The word from the race director

"The Parks and Rec dept has very strict policies about tents now. I welcome anyone w/ a tent but we should let them know they must be put into place on Saturday and the must be secured to something very heavy (staking is not acceptable). I'm not sure how to best manage logistics but I am telling everyone to find Marty Yudizky on Saturday for tent location ID."

Marty should be hanging around near the bike checkin/transition area on Saturday.  Bring your tent on Saturday and find him to see about setting it up.

Yes, Pam has the info above. Just make sure they know that it has to be there Saturday.

Small tents are OK

There are no rules about small camping tents.  10x10 pop-ups need to be placed in location on Saturday with Marty's approval.  Small stakes (the kind that come with the tent) are OK.  Big wooden (kill-the-vampire-kind) stakes are not allowed.

Buses

Here is the shuttle schedule:

5:00am to 5:30am for volunteers (If you're there earlier than 5:30, please let the volunteers board these first shuttles. There is nothing that you can do at the race site without volunteers there!)

5:30am to 6:45am for participants and spectators. If you are participating, we suggest that you plan to be at the parking lot no later than 6:15am.

10:00am to noon for people heading back to the parking area Spectators who wish to arrive after 6:45 a.m. must walk approximately one mile to the race site. All walkers must stay on the grass inside the fenceline and off the race course.

How do I get Marty's approval??

Do I need to email him before or just find him on Saturday?

Find him on Saturday

He'll be at the race site all day.  Ask for him, the volunteers can point you to him (or to someone who knows how to find him).  Allow at least 20 extra minutes to track him down (he's always very busy)
