Need wetsuit advice
I'm doing Try Andy's Tri in Sugarland this sunday - and the cold front is coming through in time to make the predicted high in the low 60s... I'd like some advice on whether I should try out my wetsuit for the first time in this race. The water will probably be below 76 degrees - but it is a very short 300m point to point straight swim in a small manmade icky lake ... with a treading water start. I think I could handle the cold for that short of a swim, but keep going back and forth on whether to use it as an 'experimental Tri'...Just how hard IS IT to get out of the wetsuit after the swim? Do you just dump it on your transition stuff afterwards or take the time to fold it up??? This is a super sprint with a lot of first time tri-ers...Anyone have an opinion or advice?

Barton Springs
I agree with Julie--try a swim in Barton Springs. If you can swim in Barton Sprigns without a wetsuit--you should be fine. Have they given any water temps at all?
--I would definitely get in a practice siwm with it beforehand if you are thinking of using it. Maybe take it to Barton and swim a lap without and then one with.

Trislide
If you decide to wear your wetset, I would recommend buying a can of Trislide. it makes getting your suit on and off a breeze!Â
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Any advice on where to get a wetsuit?
I am interested in purchasing one....any advice on where to get a great deal?

Wetsuit it is!
Just the mention of swimming in Barton Springs makes me gasp for breath...so, I think I'll try a swim today at Barton Springs or P-ville WITH my wetsuit and practice. I'm guessing I can get Trislide at J&A?

I just got trislide at Lane 4 in Cedar Park
they had another can when I was in there yesterday

To buy a wetsuit...
Amy,
Jack & Adams and Austin Tricyclists both carry wetsuits. It is a good idea to try on lots of styles and brands to see what fits you the best. When I tried them on, I definitely felt that one brand fit me better than others. Kind of like buying jeans... :-)
Have fun!
Cindy

Wetsuit or not?
Elle - I see you placed 2nd in your AG. Congratulations!  I also see your T1 time was blazing fast...so did you or didn't you use the wetsuit?

The air was cold, so the water felt warm!

How do you like cold water?
You might try a swim in Barton Springs with your wetsuit. (and without)  I've swam (swum?) twice in a sleeveless one and I don't find getting it off all that hard. Now getting it on is still a bit challenging.
Yesterday in Lake P'Ville - the water was chilly, it was fine with the wetsuit, but the first 50 yards or so, still took my breath away.Â
I think a lot depends on how well you could swim without it in cold water. If the cold takes your breath away too much, that would not be good.
