Tri Zones Training

Jody Kelly had volunteered at Danskin several times and had always thought that maybe someday she could do it.  When she turned 69, Jody decided she wanted to do something outrageous to celebrate her 70th birthday.  After some thought, she decided that participating in the Danskin Women's Triathlon would be the most outrageous way to celebrate her milestone year.

Jody joined Tri Zones when she was 69, more than a full year before her big goal race.  After training with us for a few short months, she ended up doing two triathlons almost a year before her Danskin goal!  And her daughter, Kelly, participated in one of the races with Jody. 

The next year was Jody's year to do her first Danskin, at age 70.  She brought Kelly and Kelly's daughter, Shannon, to Tri Zones, where the three generations trained together for Danskin.  Check out the article that Pam LeBlanc, Austin American-Statesman Fit City journalist, wrote about Jody, Kelly, and Shannon as they trained for Danskin.

Jody's son decided to get in on the fun, too, and he trained for triathlons with Tri Zones as well.  Together, Jody, Kelly, Bruce, and Shannon participated in the Lake Pflugerville Triathlon in 2008.

Their athletic endeavors have continued -- Jody and Shannon have entered many triathlons and running races, including several half marathons.  At triathlons, Jody and Shannon can usually be found on the podium, consistently placing in the top 3 in their respective age groups!

And they will participate in one of the most exciting races ever!  We are delighted that Jody and her granddaughter, Shannon, were selected to compete on CBS' The Amazing Race!  You can see their bios on The Amazing Race website.
