news8austin info
Hey Vick! I drove past your helipad last night. This is from the news8austin.com site: The Zilker Tree is created around one of Austin’s famed Moonlight Towers – the city's first illumination system. Austin is the only city in the world where a tower lighting system can still be found. The Zilker tree lights can been seen every night from dusk to midnight through Dec. 31. Another favorite Austin tradition is the Trail of Lights, a walking tour of 42 different lighted scenes created by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. It kicks off at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 and runs through Dec. 23 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Limited $7 parking is available at Zilker Park. The public is encouraged to ride the Capital Metro Trail of Lights Shuttle from Waterloo Park at the intersection of 14th and Trinity streets. The State of Texas Capitol Parking Garages will provide $5 parking. The roundtrip ticket for the Capital Metro Trail of Lights shuttle is $2 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 12 years of age, and free for children age 5 and under. Entrance to the Trail of Lights and the Zilker Tree is free.

May need to register
I think if you want to do the 5K (run or walk) on Saturday night, you'd have to register for the race. If you want to stroll through the Trail of Lights once it's officially open to the public (starting on Sunday), then it's free.
